Chastity Captions: What They Are and Why People Make Them

2024-12-31

A chastity caption is an image with a short text added to it: a line of dialogue, a rule or a few sentences of story about chastity play, often in the voice of a keyholder or of the wearer. Captions are adult fiction about power exchange and orgasm denial, not instructions for real devices.

What is a chastity caption?

The image can be a photo, a drawing or a computer-generated picture, with the text laid over it or placed underneath. The text often speaks to the reader as "you", casting them as the wearer of a chastity cage or as the keyholder, the partner who holds the key. Some form a series that continues one story.

The words carry the meaning: anticipation, teasing, rules, or a partner's control over when the wearer may have an orgasm.

Common themes in chastity captions

Captions draw on the same themes as chastity play in general, and each has a real-life counterpart.

Why people make them

A few lines are enough to set up a scenario. Making or reading captions can be a way to:

  • enjoy a fantasy as fiction, including one a person would not want to act out;
  • explore an interest privately before raising it with a partner;
  • show a partner what appeals, or exchange them within a relationship;
  • write, edit images or share jokes within a niche interest.

Fantasies about power exchange are not unusual. In a survey of 1,516 adults, fantasies with submission and domination themes were common among both women and men, and the researchers suggested focusing on a fantasy's effect rather than its content (Joyal et al., 2015). The study covered sexual fantasies in general, not captions.

Where captions are shared

They circulate on adult-content platforms and forums, and privately between partners. This page does not link to caption collections. Because a caption is made by adding text to an existing image, the person pictured may never have agreed to appear in a sexual context.

Consent and privacy: images of real people

Using a real person's photo without permission, whether it comes from social media, a former partner or a performer's work, puts them in a sexual story they did not agree to. Some of it is also a crime:

  • In England and Wales, intentionally sharing a photo or film that shows, or appears to show, another person in an intimate state without their consent, and without reasonably believing they consent, is an offence under section 66B of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. This includes images made or altered by computer.
  • In the United States, the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act of 2025 makes it a crime, in defined circumstances, to knowingly publish intimate images of an identifiable person without consent, including AI-made "digital forgeries". Covered platforms must remove them within 48 hours of a valid request.

Laws vary by country, and this is not legal advice. The practical rule is simpler: use only images you created or have clear permission to use, and leave out anyone identifiable who has not agreed. Before sharing images of yourself or a partner, check for faces, tattoos, recognisable rooms and location data saved in the file.

If an intimate image of you has been shared, or someone threatens to share it, StopNCII.org, run by the not-for-profit charity SWGfL, lets adults create a digital fingerprint (a hash) of the image on their own device, without uploading the image. Participating companies use the hash to detect and remove copies.

What captions leave out

They often treat months of lockup, or a key that is never returned, as the goal. According to a 2026 expert opinion article in The Journal of Sexual Medicine (Wang and Raad, 2026), real devices, which often include a base ring behind the scrotum, have not been evaluated in clinical or epidemiologic studies. What the medical literature does hold are case reports of rings and other objects stuck around the penis: a 2024 review of 100 published cases found metal rings in 36, and complications after removal in 24 (Campbell et al., 2024).

Frequently asked questions

Are chastity captions always explicit?

No. Some are sexually explicit, while others are humorous or only suggestive. They are intended for adults.

Can I make my own chastity captions?

Yes, from images you created or have clear permission to use. Leave out identifiable people who have not agreed, and remove identifying details from images of yourself or a partner.

Can captions help a couple talk about chastity?

They can be a starting point for saying what appeals. Treat the caption as fiction, then agree on real limits and on how either of you can stop. Our page on consent and boundaries covers that conversation.

What can I do if someone made a caption from my photo?

Report it to the platform and keep a record of where it appeared. If the image is intimate, StopNCII.org can help stop it spreading, and in England and Wales or under US federal law, sharing it without consent can be a crime you can report to the police.
